Medical Book in Pathology

 

Dr. Robert Odze was born and raised in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and completed a Bachelor’s Degree in pure and applied physics, and microbiology and Immunology, with honors, in 1980. He then attended medical school at McGill University, Montreal, and graduated in 1984, with honors. During medical school he was awarded the Pathology, Anatomy and Surgery Prizes for outstanding achievement in these disciplines. Following medical school, Dr. Odze completed three years of general surgical residency, followed by three years of surgical pathology training, leading to completion of the latter and board certification in 1990. He then completed a GI pathology fellowship program at the New England Deaconess and Beth Israel Hospitals, Harvard Medical School, in Boston, in 1990, under the mentorship of the late Harvey Goldman.

Dr. Odze began his tenure as a Staff Pathologist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in 1993. He  became Director of the division of GI Pathology in 1997 and Professor of Pathology at Harvard Medical School in 2007. He became president and managing partner of Robert Odze Pathology LLC in 2019. Dr. Odze has directed many national and international courses in various different aspects of GI Pathology and medicine, and has served as an executive committee member, and as President, of the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology GI Pathology Society. Dr. Odze serves on many editorial review boards of both pathology and gastroenterology journals. He served as the associate editor of American Journal of Gastroenterology from 2003-2009 and as associate editor of the IBD journal as well.  Dr. Odze was also a prior member of the education committee of the American College of Gastroenterology.

Dr. Odze has published over 400 peer-reviewed original research articles, reviews, editorials, and book chapters related to many aspects of GI pathology and medicine. His most active areas of research are related to Barrett’s Esophagus and Inflammatory Bowel Disease ( see research and publication page ). Dr. Odze currently serves as the  editor of the world’s largest and most comprehensive textbook of GI pathology  titled "Surgical Pathology of the GI Tract, Liver, Biliary Tract and Pancreas", which is currently in it’s fourth edition; released in the fall of 2023. Other notable book publications include senior author of the most recent fourth series AFIP fascicle on tumors of the esophagus and stomach, and expert member, editor and author of the fourth and most recent fifth edition of the WHO book on digestive system tumors.
